Eric Goldman is a professor of law and Co-Director of the High Tech Law Institute at Santa Clara University School of Law. Before he became a full-time academic in 2002, he practiced Internet law for eight years in the Silicon Valley. His research and teaching focuses on Internet, intellectual property and advertising law topics, and he blogs on those topics at the Technology & Marketing Law Blog, http://blog.ericgoldman.org. Rebecca Tushnet is a professor of law at Georgetown University Law Center. She clerked for Associate Justice David H. Souter and worked on intellectual property and advertising litigation before beginning teaching. Her academic work focuses on copyright, trademark and advertising law. I highly recommend this book to any health care provider who wants ...

In a world where patient satisfaction (Press-Ganey results) determines profit, health care providers would be foolish to ignore the invaluable information Dr Epstein provides. As a nursing professor, I am recommending this book to all of my students. Dr. Epstein provides very practical tips that practitioners can use with patients that will improve the care they provide, thus improving both patient outcomes as well as patient satisfaction. In addition, his focus on self-reflection is pivotal to minimizing compassion fatigue in a world where physician burn out is at an all time high. I highly recommend this book to any health care provider who wants to improve his/her practice, build resilience, and become a better practitioner to the patients we care for.

Mindfulness applied to doctors and medicine, to help them listen to their patient and trying to be, sometimes, more "human", because being a doctor is hard and takes a toll on everybody who is a professional. I would recommend this book to all my friends who are doctors or studying to become one, and even to my psychologist and psychotherapist friend.

La mindfulness utilizzata in ambito medico e dai dottori, in modo da aiutarli ad ascoltare i loro pazienti e provare ad essere a volte piú "Umani", perché fare il dottore é difficile e stancante per ogni professionista. 'I guess somebody is trying to blow up the new housing,' one man joked to his wife. But it wasn't a joke. That's exactly what someone was trying to do."

In 1988, when a federal judge ordered the city of Yonkers, New York, to integrate more thoroughly its low-income housing throughout the city, it set off a bitter dispute that would consume the town for the next five years. Among those caught in the controversy was the city's 28-year-old mayor, Nicholas Wasicsko, who had used the issue to his advantage during his campaign and found that he would never be able to escape it, either during or after his administration. Veteran New York Times journalist Lisa Belkin focuses not on the abstract "sides" of the integration debate, but on the people who take those sides. It's that personal perspective that makes her account most worth reading.

In the late 1980s, the city of Yonkers, N.Y., made national headlines because of a bitter battle waged by many of its residents and political leaders against a federal court-ordered public housing plan. The plan compelled Yonkers to build public housing in the predominantly white east-side districts of the city. The heated opposition to the plan convulsed the city, which complied with the court order only when court-imposed fines threatened to consume the entire city budget. Belkin, who covered the story for the New York Times, follows the housing battle through the eyes of its participants: fearful white residents of the east side; black public housing tenants anxious to escape the misery of the west-side projects; Oscar Newman, the housing consultant and architect who designed the new town houses; and Nick Wasicsko, the young mayor of Yonkers who courageously confronted his own core constituency and tried to get the city to accept the plan (and who, five years later, out of office and out of prospects, shot himself). In her effort to interweave so many personal perspectives, Belkin sometimes loses her focus on the key public policies at stake. She does, however, enable readers to feel the hopes and fears of both the homeowners, who felt that their neighborhoods and property values were threatened by the housing plan, and the disadvantaged public housing tenants, who were seeking redress for years of discrimination and simply wanted a safe place to call home. Belkin's gritty book is a vivid slice of urban politics, racial tension and the difficulties inherent in realizing the American dream.

In the 1980 case U.S. v. Yonkers, the Justice Department charged that race determined the location and quality of education in Yonkers, a situation created by the segregation of housing. In 1985 the court ruled that new public housing must be built on the white middle-class east side of the city. By 1988, when New York Times writer Belkin's narrative begins, the stand-off between the federal judge and the city has escalated into war; the judge's orders were not obeyed until his fines brought the city to the brink of bankruptcy. Belkin (First Do No Harm, LJ 1/93) lets a diverse group of individuals tell the story of the battles and then the building, including the mayor, a citizen who protested the decision, and several residents of public housing. This is an interesting look at how a court decision and politics can affect people on an individual level. Although there are no footnotes, it's apparent that Belkin has done a thorough job. Highly recommended for all libraries.

Sensational. A true slice of what it was it was really like

I've never written one of these before, but I just read that reader from New England and I had to respond. I think we read two different books. The one I read captured the chaos and heartbreak of the city I have lived in all my life. I was at a lot of the meetings and clashes that fill this book, and reading Belkin I felt like I was there all over again. More important, I learned so much about the behind the scenes wrangling that I didn't know. One dimensional? No way. She peered into people's souls. Did she streamline? Yes. And as a reader, I thank her. The point was the essence of a city in chaos, and she painted that portrait in gritty and riveting detail. It wasn't her job to make sure everyone in town got their name in her book. As for Hollywood, I don't think they'll have the guts to make this movie. There are no pat happy endings here and no easy answers. Just a story that I couldn't put down.

Yonkers-a city divided

"Show Me A Hero" is a compelling story of public housing reform that went on in Yonkers, New York from 1988-1998. The author told the story in a very captivating way, giving the insight of several people, not only the political perspective, but also from the perspective of the people that lived in the public housing. The city of Yonkers was handed down a court order that it had to build public housing on the white, middle-class part of town. This became a huge political battle and nearly ripped the town apart, while eventually ruining the career of the then mayor, Nick Wasicsko. As much as the white, middle-class residents didn't want the new public housing complexes in their neighborhoods, the people living in the public housing really would have preferred to be surrounded by their own. They felt uncomfortable and like they were not part of the community. This story closely follows the lives of several families who moved from the run down public housing to the new housing, townhouses, that they hoped would offer them a better life. Many times these people felt more threatened and afraid in their new homes in the middle-class neighborhood, than they did in their old apartments that were surrounded by violence and drugs. It was very interesting to get some understanding of the vicious cycle that poverty can create--children having children, absent fathers, the sick and elderly, all contributing to these lifestyles. Lisa Belkin wrote this story using a combination of documented facts, common knowledge on how people felt, and did so from a journalistic approach. This is the result of six years of work she did observing, researching and following these families. I think Yonkers did a lot of things right, and also has a lot to teach the rest of the country about how to do it better.
I found this book to be very entertaining and would recommend it.

nonfiction that reads like a narrative

This is a well written book that encourages thinking about important social issues. The City of Yonkers was forced by the courts to desegregate housing after years of discriminating against minorities. The decision was made to have small groups of cluster homes scattered throughout white neighborhoods. All hell broke loose in the white communities after the court decision. Whites feared a minority presence and a decline in property values and fought viciously against the homes. Poor families hoped for a safer, better place to live and raise their families. A balanced and complex story, well wrought, with an interesting cast of characters from politicians to single mothers desperate to move their families to safer neighborhoods. All the answers about the future of public housing aren't here, but certainly a clearer concept of the issues involved, from personal to political, can be gathered from this fascinating story.

An engaging book that is sure to make the reader feel hot under the collar!

I love well written erotica, and I picked up this e-book hoping that's what I would get.

And it certainly is good. The story picks up quickly and makes for a very engaging read. The characters are refreshingly colorful in their personalities - which are skillfully explored throughout the book despite being short - and inspiring in their own quirky ways.

It's a very good read based on those qualities alone. However, I wasn't quite ready for what I must say are the most arousing and hot scenes I have ever read. It's sensual, but extreme at the same time; wicked and oh! So erotic in the way it's written where masculinity and femininity (although represented in a gloriously powerful and headstrong female character) meets in incredibly hot and passionate fashion.

The book is very short and is mostly comprised of text aiming towards the carnal senses. Yet it contains more plot twists than alot of full length novels, big thumbs up for this!

Like any other gorgeously written fiction however, there are scenes so exquisite that others are bound to disappoint in comparison, and given the shortness of the book, I'm only left with what's already written and my own imagination of their future adventures until the brilliant authors decide to continue the tale.

It would be a crime to give this smoking hot book a rating of less than five stars, so that's what it gets, and here's hoping to see more!

Liliana Batchelor is a smart, independent woman. She’s admiring a really expensive car when the unimaginable happens. She pushes all of her fears aside and saves a man’s life. She is suddenly in the spotlight and doesn’t like one bit of the attention. The man summons her to his hospital bed to meet her and properly thank her but he loves what he sees. He pursues her but she remains closed off to him. He lays out his intentions but she is fearful. Liliana goes to Scotland for a conference and a vacation. She comes to find out that he is there too and things progress from there.
Liliana and Stuart have an explosive relationship. She is strong and independent. He is the president of a huge corporation and extremely wealthy. He is also a major alpha male and wants complete control and a submissive woman. Liliana fights that. Their relationship grows and their need for each grows as well. They spend a lot of time together and learn about each other, the good and the bad.
This book sucks you in from page one. It is a sweet yet a very hot read. Liliana and Stuart have an unmeasurable amount of lust for each other. They want so much from each other but neither one is willing to give it. These characters are intense and the author makes sure you are completely enthralled in the story. A great read. I would recommend this book!

Very HOT Romance

This was a really hot and romantic read. I loved both characters, which were honest, believable and pretty normal - no hidden sceletons so far. The storyline and love of both develops nice and slow, and gets much more passionate to the end. You could feel they had great chemistry for each other. It was fun to read from the first page on.
The picture misleads a little bit, because he never used such restraints. Though he likes to dominante, this is not a BDSM kind of thing. The heroine was not weak and both characters were pretty even and on the same level.
Now I want to know, what happens next. I really would appreciate it, if this series would be available with Kindle Unlimited!! I bought this on Amazon.de
One thing I would have liked better is, if it was written in the first person, from different point of view, not like from a reporters view.

An Accidental Affair should be on every reader's 'Must Read' list.

Lily Batchelor, realizing that she has no food at home, takes a side trip to the grocery store one evening. Just as she approaches a railroad crossing, the wooden cross bars come down, signaling an approaching train. Across the tracks, a beautiful sports car stops, and then is pushed forward from behind as an SUV slams into the back and pushes it forward onto the tracks. Lily instinctively jumps from her vehicle and rushes to save the unconscious man she can see inside. Dragging him out is almost beyond her strength, but at the last possible second, she yanks him free as the train slams into the front of the car, twisting and pushing it down the tracks.

When the ambulance and police arrive, they are both carried to the hospital. Lily is treated and released; the man has more severe injuries and remains. The next day, a man comes to Lily's apartment with a message that the injured man wishes to meet her and thank her for saving his life.

This 'Accidental' meeting is the genesis of an 'Affair' that takes Lily to the wilds of Scotland and the depths of passion. The stranger turns out to be everything that Lily has searched for her entire life. The man, Stuart Watson, finds in Lily, the perfect woman to match the needs of his body and soul.
The author takes the reader on an exhilarating, roller-coaster ride of love and lust as the two lovers excite and enthrall each other in the beginnings of romance that sweeps you along with them.

A story that excites the imagination and thrills the mind. A novel that cannot be not just read, but absorbed into the very fiber of your being. Lily's tale of surrender is a joy to read and impossible to put down.Rising from the Ashes
