As a clinical psychologist with over twenty years of experience, DR. BELISA VRANICH has spent the last decade dedicating herself to the study of breathing. I have a lot more energy and decreased my chronic fatigue thanks to this book!

I've struggled with fatigue and depression for years. I devoured all the material about Chronic Fatigue syndrome at the Optimum Health Clinic in London (great stuff, by the way), and it was very helpful. But when I read this book something clicked - I realized I have not been exhaling (and therefore inhaling) enough. Dr. Belisa calls these poor breathing pattern of being a "No-Haler" or a "Breath Holder". Sitting at a desk all day, often unconsciously experiencing "email apnea" - I would hold my breath, or not fully exhale, resulting in lower oxygen, and lower energy. But when I started doing some of the exercises like the Rock & Roll breath - with FULL exhale and full inhale - greatly increasing the volume of each breath - I immediately started feeling more energy. This is not nothing.

I've read many books and programs on breathing and this is the best I've come across - it's comprehensive and easy to read. While I still have issues with anxiety that I expect will be resolved with improving my breathing even more completely (I'm hoping that smoothing out my inhale and exhale, making them longer, improving my posture and activating my diaphragm), and getting some psychological help to gain clarity on any unconscious patterns, I am very grateful for Dr. Belisa for writing this book because it has changed my life. It's reminded me to fully exhale - pushing out stale air and CO2 so that I can breathe in new air and oxygen - my diaphragm massaging my organs and muscles in the process - and bringing in energy.

Like anything of value, diligence is required - actually doing the exercises and making the changes. But as health information junkie, a few simple ideas in this book will be with me for life.

I believe that breathing is one of the most important variables in our health. If you want to improve yours, this book would be a very wise investment in my opinion.

got through the first 2 chapters and already have to leave a review. As an ER doc we are not taught how to breathe even in medical school and dealing with pts in the ED, coaching them to breathe has become my 2nd job. Can't wait to take your class on Saturday!

Very good book

Well thought out and useful instructions and plan. Breath work an essential skill for health and especially important for any one struggling with anxiety issues. Also very important for anyone practicing the softer martial arts or meditation. Now I just have to actually do the program

A first person perspective

This book really showed me what it was like in the concentration camps. I've seen documentaries about the Holocaust, but this book described life in a camp far more detailed than a show. It really showed how harsh and terrifying it was to be forced into a concentration camp. From the deportation of Sighet to Elie's last stop at Buchenwald, I never thought it could get any more suspenseful and depressing as his life went on. I encourage you to read Night because it will give you an experience that will be unforgettable.

The book was amazing. It was incredible how detailed it was without it losing my interest. Elie Wiesel was successful by transforming everyone's emotions to the book. The part that spoke to me the most was when the Germans were throwing the bread onto the train and they were just watching. That particular section was really heavy. When I finished I felt that I was mentally there. It is the perfect blend of desperation and hope, I couldn't ask for a better book.

Elie Wiesel, born in 1928. A Holocaust survivor. Wiesel earned the Nobel Peace Prize in 1986 for his writings about his World War II experiences and his lifelong humanitarian efforts to prevent similar atrocities from occurring anywhere else in the world. In 1944, young Elie and his family were shipped off to a concentration camp in Poland. Wiesel would never see his mother or youngest sister again. Elie and his father were later transported to Buchenwald, a concentration camp in Germany, where his father died of starvation and dysentery just days before the camp was freed by the Allies.

After World War II, Wiesel studied in France and later became a journalist. Ten years after the war, Wiesel told his story in an 800-page manuscript in Yiddish. A condensed, French-language version of his story, was published in 1958, followed by the English translation, "Night", two years later. Night has since been translated into more than thirty languages. An American citizen since 1963, Wiesel lives in New York with his wife & son.

Dear Reader,
    Archery is an amazingly rewarding sport and for many including myself, a way of life. There are many ways to get into archery, many different styles of bow and many reasons to shoot. All aspects of archery should be respected and each is rewarding.
    Within these pages you will find instructions and pictures showing how I build simple bows from PVC pipe. These bows are designed to be simple, utilizing only a single PVC pipe for a single bow. Yet while simple, they offer power and performance comparable to bows that require more work and equipment to build.
    While PVC is more forgiving and more easily formed into an efficient working bow than any other material, the methods explained here are not automatic or effortless. A PVC bow requires your patience and respect, just like any other bow. Rushing into it, being ill prepared or skimping on methods may result in failure.
    Before I immersed myself in building bows from PVC pipe, I shaped and crafted bows from single staves of wood, multiple laminations of wood and bows of wood and fiberglass. Even after building bows for years they aren't easy. Sure it doesn't take nearly as much time and I've developed a feel for them that makes the most tedious processes go quickly, but they aren't easy to make in any way.
    As a bowyer who has built hundreds of bows, I still have trouble making them all go the way I want all the time. My success rate isn't 100% and I don't think it ever will be. I work with several thousand dollars in equipment that makes building a bow in an hour possible. Yet add in the time it takes to let wood dry , glue to set, finish to cure and the constant adjustment required for each bow to reach maturity and it can takes months for a bow to go from raw wood to finished product.
    As a beginner with few tools and no previous experience, it can take days if not weeks of work to reduce a stave into a working bow. The process of teaching wood to bend alone can take many hours of seemingly endless toil and adjustment. It's not difficult work and is definitely worth it, but it is strenuous and tedious work. Even after all this, a beginner with no formal instruction would be lucky to have a bow that shoots faster than 100 feet per second with a matched arrow.
    Even after all the work I put into them, my selfbows don't regularly exceed 150 fps and the fastest bows barely exceed 170 fps. While some of my laminated bows do reach into the 200's, they are the exception rather than the rule. My first performance PVC bow, which took a few hours of shaping and tweaking before I had any experience with it and no guide on the subject existed, still to this day exceeds 140 fps with a matched arrow.
    Over the last year I have received countless testimonial from happy owners of PVC bows they built with their own hands. It isn't easy but it's doable and more accessible than virtually any other material for the beginner. With a little practice and patience, bows that rival even commercial bows in performance and speed are possible with few tools, PVC pipe and raw determination.

Welcome to Simple PVC Pipe Bows! Thank you for joining me on this journey. Believe me, building bows from PVC pipe is truly a journey. This book is an introduction to a few of the many styles and performance levels of bow that can be made from PVC pipe.

About the Author
Nicholas Tomihama was born in Honolulu, where he lived until graduating high school. From there he went to Hilo on the island of Hawaii (the Big Island) to study business management at the University of Hawaii at Hilo. Even before going to college, he had a knack for making things and working with his hands, perhaps coming from his father who was a jeweler and general jack-of-all-trades. In highschool, Nicholas made hand-turned wooden pens, collected coins, fossils, and toyed around with his father's hunting bow. In Hilo, Nicholas was exposed to the party life and turned away from it, instead passing his time exploring the island and getting to his Hawaiian heritage. He began researching and studying native hawaiian crafts, carving bone hooks, crafting woven slings, and other hawaiian arts. After becoming more interested with craft than education, Nicholas returned to Oahu without a degree and married his highschool sweetheart, who had kept up with him in a long-distance relationship for the duration of his stay in Hilo. Nicholas now lives on Oahu with his wife and young son, Levi. He is an artist who makes hand-crafted bows and arrows and enjoys the sport of archery. He is also an avid reader and prolific writer, who recently published his first book, The Backyard Bowyer, which teaches how to build simple wooden bows for the complete novice.

Simple PVC Pipe Bows

This book has the measurement charts and all the details to make your won working archery bow from PVC pipe. I made one and am amazed at how well it works for such a humble material. A 10 foot length of 3/4" pipe cost less than $2.00 and has enough material to make two bows. Compare that price to a commercial bow, even one from a garage sale, and not only do you have a bargain bow, but have also gained a new skill by making it. How cool is that?

I like this book better than his other one I have , which is also good. His free youtube videos are worth looking at also, but this book is great for hands on 'doing it' in the workshop. Glad I got it.

When my buddies at Puget Sound Knappers discussed PVC bows I thought they were nuts. Then they brought a couple examples back from the Glass Buttes rendezvous where Nick had crafted them over the heat of a campfire in 20 minutes and shot them immediately afterward. I saw then that there was something to it, something very interesting and intrinsically beautiful. The excitement of crafting a serious bow out of less than $3 in materials and an hour of effort to arrive at something that looks like a plains Indian pony bow lead to a class directed by Nicholas himself. His manner is gentlemanly, his expertise is undeniably masterful, and the class was a great success. 15 of us, the whole class, made bows that shoot as well as anything available in the 40 pound arena of archery, in my opinion, and I've been shooting for over 50 years. Some of the students made two during the time allotted. Depending on the length and diameter of the pipe, as well as the design, a PVC bowyer can make up to an 80 pound rocket launcher with Nick's techniques and expertise. I bought this book right from Nick's hand after our class, and he signed it for me. I had already read one brought back from Oregon by one of the guys, and had watched a half dozen YouTube videos and bought the book to support Nick and his worthy efforts. I recommend it without reservation, and those few who pan it because of typos and printing mistakes are missing the soul of this unique creation by the absolute master of the craft. These bows are fun to make, and fun to shoot.

Dr. Robbins also actively participates in masters' track competition. Since turning 50 in 1993, he has set numerous indoor and outdoor age-group world sprint records. He has won more than a dozen indoor and outdoor U.S. Championships at 60 m, 100 m, 200 m, and 400 m, and won seven gold medals at World Masters Championships. In 2005, he was induced into the Masters track & Field Hall of Fame.

A pretty great overview of organizational behavior

I'm a physician taking a graduate course in informatics and was assigned this (expensive) book for a class. It is actually a really fantastic book, well-organized, with just about the right level of detail. I took a lot away from this book with regard to issues like employee motivation, leadership, office politics, and other HR issues. I was pleased with this book.

Textbook, but easy to follow

We used this textbook for several courses in my Organizational Behavior program. Of all the texts we've used, this one has been the most valuable. The text is easy to read and is interesting, and the book offers a great deal of case studies to really emphasize the points. Overall, I think this is a great textbook and it is very versatile in business courses.

I attended an Organizational Behavior graduate level program that used this textbook. I was very impressed with the quality and consistency of writing. I have suffered through enough bad textbooks to appreciate decent writing and organization. This was superb.
