Extremely Comprehensive collection

If you are willing to pay a few more bucks, you will get this book that is loaded with GREAT music.

I am not a professional musician and I do not have the discipline to practice regularly. I am lucky if I play 10 minutes a day. This book is PERFECT for someone like me.

The music is divided into categories, so there is something for every musical taste and ability. There are "recorded" versions of 8 songs including "Day Tripper" and "Tears in Heaven." Easy Guitar (my speed) including such greats as "Dust in the Wind," "A Whiter Shade of Pale" and "Mambo #5." A few classical pieces and finger picking stuff. For the rocker, there are a number of songs with riffs!

The songs in this book are somewhat old; but for a single guitarist
you could probably get a few gigs from it. If you learned everything
in it and really knew how to gig you could make some money so four stars and the songs are popular.

An excellent resource for learning Cinema 4D

In this post I'd like to put forward my review of Packt Publishing Cinema 4D R14 Cookbook, Second Edition by Simon Russell and Michael Szabo.

I've been using Cinema 4D now for, oh, around 11 years now, and I've gone through several Cinema 4D how-to books, the manuals, and many tutorials online, paid and free. It seems as if I can never get enough of learning the depths of Cinema 4D. I do enjoy it so much.

So I was very pleased with learning more of my favorite 3D software with Cinema 4D R14 Cookbook.

I'm a slow reader, so it did take me some good amount of time to go through this, and there's some good depth in this great resource for Cinema 4D.

Firstly, I think it's very easy to read and understand and helps the beginner to get up to quick speed in learning a hearty tool like Cinema 4D.

Secondly, I'm a visual person, and I really love how the authors incorporated great visuals in the form of screenshots and icons to help the student, beginner, intermediate or advance to navigate each section. The visuals, for me help move a person along very well.

There's even some humor thrown in here and there, because every VFX artist knows that manuals can be quite boring and dry. The authors did a great job to not let this be a dry read.

I've even learned things from the Fundamentals section, even though I consider myself in the upper intermediate level to lower advanced levels.

I really enjoy modeling in 3D so I thoroughly enjoyed the "Super Modeling" section. That was a lot of help for me, and I consider myself a pretty good 3D modeler. I learned new tricks and shortcuts, which is always useful.

The layout of this book is perhaps the best I've seen. There's no confusion with the section headings and each sub point. Such as "Getting Ready" which describes on gathering a scene file and where it's located, and then the section "How to do it" which describes step by step processes of creation within Cinema 4D.

I'm very new to the sculpting feature within Cinema 4D so I'm really just eating up every bit of information within the section, "Getting to grips with Sculpting."

I loved how the authors taught about deformers in Chapter 3. They show a picture of a rolled blueprint and I thought, "That is so cool" because I had done an animation a number of years ago that looked very near like this scene and I modeled and animated it just as was being taught in that section. So, well done!

Cameras are more of a weaker point to my use in Cinema 4D, I admit. I'm more into modeling and animation and letting an object move past the camera, but animating the camera hasn't been a focus of mine, admittedly. I was very pleased and learned things I really needed to know regarding animating a camera within Cinema 4D.

I've never dealt with 3D vision in rendering...yet. So I was pleased that they talk about that in this book. I really want to learn to do that as well.

Lighting an object or scene is a pretty complex ordeal and a lot of things can go wrong. The authors did a fantastic job of walking a student through the essentials and the complexity of lighting and rendering within Cinema 4D.

What pleases me about this book is that a lot of techniques that I had to learn on my own without really any help, just me figuring things out - I'm seeing in this book. That's not a bad thing at all, I'm certainly learning new techniques. It's just that it is comforting to see that I'm on the right track in my own development with using such powerful software.

The section that seems very daunting to me is Xpresso. I'm not much of a programmer so this is one area that I have usually avoided, but not with this book. This is a section that I'm re-reading over again to really get my head around the powerful tools of Xpresso and also MoGraph.

Cinema 4D R14 Cookbook: Second Edition may seem simple at first, but it goes into great depth into Cinema 4D's powerful programming to teach students how to really produce quality models and animations. It's written in a very intuitive tone, with many visuals to guide a person along smoothly.

This is one book that I'd definitely recommend!

A professional approach to Cinema 4D

This review is for the 2nd edition Cinema 4D R14 Cookbook

I've been a design professional for several years now, and was completely self taught by books such as this. This book stands out to me however, as a great in depth resource for users of all knowledge levels. I spent hundreds of hours scouring the web for tutorials and found myself weeding out good resources from bad. There are many amatuers out there that may not have as professional an approach as is demanded from the industry. I can confidently recommend this book as a professional approach to learning Cinema 4D. This is a well developed learning resource that teaches you not only how to create specific things, but the theory behind the work. Online tutorials are all about how to create something step by step, and if you follow their exact instructions step by step, you will get a result exactly like the tutorial. This book takes this above and beyond by leading you to think creatively, opening the door to the endless creative possibilities and the vast power that Cinema 4D offers it's users.

Got this one through my kindle but i do not feel comfortable to continue reading because I cannot find the exercises for the initial chapters for download in the packpub website (although the exercises for the more advanced chapters are there)

One of the best

I received an advance copy, as I am an avid science fiction fan. Shroud of Eden has plenty of action and a gripping storyline, and delves sincerely but not preachily into the interplay between vastly divergent cultures. What's more, for a science fiction novel, the science is accurate and descriptive more than it is speculative and fanciful. I would classify it among the best science fiction works I have read. The cultural aspects are reminiscent of Heinlein at his best.

While there are some fleet battles--if you're looking for hardcore action, this might not be your cup of tea. If you're looking for a well told story with plenty of length, good descriptive prose, solid editing, adventure, and some action--this offering does not disappoint. I look forward to purchasing the sequel which will come out in the Spring.

What a Ride into a Story and a World Worth Visiting

I had the opportunity of reading one of the authors first review copies. What started as a favor ending up a passion for the "Shroud of Eden" characters and the challenges they faced. The book is both suspenseful and hopeful that even in the future, man's desire for freedom and love have a way of connecting the galaxies and the ages. The science fiction and the military strategy ring true, but it's the story that penetrates. The world of the story created is vivid and exciting to bring to life in your mind's eye. I travel a lot and couldn't wait to get on the plane and get back into the book. You read to take you to places you may not ever see. You will enjoy this ride, and it will make your five hour flight feel like minutes. I loved "Shroud of Eden." In fact, I loved it so much, I can't wait for the next book in the series.

I was looking for a book that would provide information and help on making architectural models. This book pretends to provide such information. It is really just a treatise on architectural model making with absolutely no details on how to make a model.

If you're interested in the history of architectural model making then it isn't a bad book. But if you are looking for information on how to make models, techniques and materials, this isn't the book you need.

John Borek is President Emeritus of Liberty University. He holds a Ph.D. in business administration.He resides in Lynchburg, Virginia.

Danny Lovett has led Liberty Baptist Theological Seminary since 1996. His previous books include Rod of the Spirit: A Journey into the Spirit-Filled Life and Jesus Is Awesome: Christian Life and Evangelism. He resides in Lynchburg, Virginia.

Elmer Towns is dean of the B.R. Lakin School of Religion at Liberty University, which he cofounded with Jerry Falwell. His books include Fasting for Spiritual Breakthroughs, Praying the Lord’s rayer for Spiritual Breakthroughs, and Praying the 23rd Psalm. He resides in Lynchburg, Virginia.

The entire book is filled with inspiring and insightful advice with hands on information that is very relevant in today's world. Aside from all we can learn from the original Biblical leaders, also included are modern day known leaders and their accomplishments to inspire and motivate us as well.

Borek uses the leadership styles of Joshua to Moses to Ester. He discusses styles such as The Administrative Leader, The Equipping Leader and the Subordinate Leader to list a few. Within the leadership realm this is a great biblically based text to reference and learn from.

About the Author
Pauline Gibbons taught postgraduate and undergraduate TESOL courses at the University of Technology, Sydney, for many years, and is now an Adjunct Professor at the University of New South Wales, Sydney. She is also an independent EL consultant and her work with teachers has taken her to Hong Kong, Sweden, Laos, Singapore, Indonesia, Thailand, China, South Africa, Marshall Islands, Iran, Germany, UK, and USA. She has published extensively in EL education, including Bridging Discourses in the ESL Classroom: students, teachers and researchers (Continuum, 2006), and two other Heinemann books: Learning to Learn in a Second Language (1993) and English Learners, Academic Literacy and Thinking: Learning in the Challenge Zone (2009).

Keep this nearby for regular reference as well as inspiration

This is my new "go to" book when I'm thinking about my work with English Learners. Gibbons inspired me in the first chapter with the following: "Treating EL learners as the people they can become means that we see students not in terms of what they lack--in their case, full control of academic English--but as capable and intelligent learners who, with the right kind of support, are as able to participate in learning and achieve academically as their English-speaking peers."

Gibbons' writing is clear and concise. The layout and design of the book make it easy to access concrete ideas for instruction for immediate use in the classroom AS WELL AS to increase our understanding of language development--the theoretical basis (the why) for our instructional moves.

For my class, I originally had the previous edition of this book, but I realized how much information how many additional teaching strategies I was missing I quickly purchased this edition. Really great stuff. It really boosts my repertoire of teaching strategies and they seem very engaging, excited to try them with my classes in the fall.

Interesting but dullest of the original 9 book series

I have to say that although I have been captivated by Mr. Maybury's books for some time, reading each one in order. I found this one interesting only about half the time. Wehn I got half way through it I lost interest. It seemed to be going over and over and over and over the same old stuff which could have been imparted in half the time and half the pages, and just plain got boring. It simply did not hold my interest like the first seven.
After finishing it, I picked up the "Thousand Year War" a little apprehensively to see if Maybury had lost his flare after the success of his previous books, as so many do, sort of like movie sequals that never meet or match the standards of the original, and luckily found that it was back on track with interesting, coherent information taht once again had me wanting to finish it in one setting.
Mr. Maybury needs to work The "Clipper Ship" over and could easily reduce it by half.
Of course I enjoy his work and will order the two follow on books WWI and WWII to round out my collection. All in all, he has made me a little bit wiser with this series and I still recommend it (all of them) to anyone who wants to understand the competing "models" that exist in the world and what makes the world go round.

Wow, I recommend reading this book as soon as possible, as well as the first book in the series.
Both of them give practical advice, and this on advice, and this one explains the practical out working of Richard Mayberry's model.

What a great, informative book.

I learned about this author a few years ago and meant to read one of his books. I was not disappointed at all. I could hardly put this book down. I read it over a day or two. He just has a simple way of explaining economics that makes so much sense. I will be buying more of his books to get an even better understanding of his views.

If you want to learn how the world really works, read this book.
