About the Author
Pamela Minix is a competitive athlete, has studied under some of the world's leaders in neuroscience and biomechanics, has recovered from a life-threatening illness and has led discoveries in neuromechanical connections. She is the case-study, the student, the miracle and the scientist. And now, she is the author too. Her combination of innovative studies and personal experience gives her unusual biomechanical insight, attracting clientele from Canada's volleyball and hockey teams, Mexico's figure skating team and the US Olympic triathlon. She served as a biomechanical specialist in the Olympics and is now teaching her philosophies in Universities. Residing in San Diego, Pamela runs a performance training facility.

Fantastic and very insightful!

"I've been reading exercise books for years and as a practitioner of corrective exercise, I've read my share of text books on the subject. "Beyond Exercise" by Pamela Minix was a complete surprise.
Pamela shares the intimate details of her debilitating illness and the process she used to bring herself back from death's door to the vibrant athlete and 2003 National Mountain Bike Champion. Pam, not only inspires, but gives us the tools for a mind body journey of self-healing.
She makes the connection between neuromuscular imbalances and chronic pain. She does a splendid job breaking down the fundamentals of biomechanics and providing some of the most effective corrective exercises I've seen. In fact, I was so impressed I asked Pam to become my personal biomechanics therapist. I've not been disappointed!"

A moving story and more

The author tells her personal
story including an illness,
coming of age, father
daughter tensions, her
professional career as a
corrective exercise specialist
and her sportive career as a
high impact athlete.
Embedded in this story, she
describes a body and mind
program designed by herself
which focuses on
everybody's own
responsibility for his health.
The aim of this program is to
align body and soul by
actively eliminating mental,
environmental and physical
imbalances from all aspects
of one's life. An integral part
of this program is a set of
corrective exercises that are
illustrated with both graphics
and case studies mainly
taken from the author's
experience as a corrective
exercise practioneer.
An ambitious scope for a
single book.
While I enjoyed reading the
(moving and exciting)
personal story and appreciate
the motto of being
responsible for my own
health, there are several
points of criticism to be
raised. I suppose most of
them could have been
overcome by the work of a
professional corrector. Most
importantly, the author tries
to put too much content into
one and the same book, her
personal story, the exercise
manual, and personal stories
of her clients. Thereby she
sometimes loses focus and
the orgamization of the book
becomes confusing.
Futhermore it is repetitive
and unfortunately even has
many formal flaws such as
unfinished sentences and
spelling errors. I was also a
bit disappointed when I
discovered that the book
does not really help me to
learn what biomechanics is
about.
Buy this book when
- You want to read a moving
and exciting personal story
- You want to have a
complete body set of
corrective exercises with
precise instructions
- You agree with the motto
that everybody is responsible
for his own health.
Do not buy this book if
- You are not willing to pay
(the kindle price) for a book
that is more in the state of a
manuscript ready to be
reviewed by an editor than in
the state of a published book
